Withraws from Tokyo and Shanghaï

Roger said last week has to withdraw from Tokyo and Shanghaï’s tournaments because he has to rest after US Open and Davis Cup matches.

Message from his officiel website :

“Dear Fans

I am disappointed that I have to withdraw from Tokyo and Shanghai as they are two of my favorite cities in the world and the fans have been great to me over the years.  After consultation with my team and doctors, I decided to take the difficult decision to withdraw from both tournaments so that I can give my body a chance to rest, rehabilitate and fully recover from a physically challenging year.

So, we’ll se him again only at the end of this month in his national tournament, Basel.

18-09-2009 With Roger’s victory in 1h40mn against Bolelli after Wawrinka’s against Seppi, Switzerland’s team has good chances to stay in the World Group. Federer  said he was satisfied byhersults because of the time change, and also because of the surface change.

They lead 2-0, ans there are 3 matches left.

Victories : Stan 6-4 6-1 6-2 ; Roger 6-3 6-4 6-1.

Chiudinelli ans Wawrinka lost the double today against Italian peer Starace/Bolelli. Wawrinka has been broken 4 times today. 6-2 6-4 7-6(3).

Roger permites to Switzerland to stay in the World Group for the 2010 Davis Cup by winning against Potito Starace in straight sets 6-3 6-0 6-4.

Coupe Davis : Play-off

Roger and Wawrinkawill play each one 2 matches for the Davis Cup play-offs which will take place in Genoa, in Italy.

Day 1 : Roger vs Bolelli, Stanislas vs Seppi

Day 2 : Roger/Stan (not sure) vs Starace/Fognini

Day 3 : Roger vs Seppi, Stan vs Bolelli. (not sure)

Stanislas’ winning 6-4 6-1 5-2. Switzerland surely will win it’s first point.

US Open final loss.

Roger was so clase to win his 6th consecutive US Open title loses against Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro in an epic final, 5 sets.

First set is easily won by Roger with a break, 6-3. The second is easy until 5-4, on Roger’s serve, when he leads 30-00 on his serve, the Swissman is disturbed, and loses the set after a tie-break (7-6(5)).

Third set is won by Roger 6-4 after a break at 4 games all.

Roger leads 5-4, and 6-5 in 4th set, but loses the set again in tie-break.

First set was easy for the giant, who wins a first Grand Slam title in his first final in a major.

Roger announced after his match he doesn’t care about it, because 4 and 5 consecutive US Opens were good. Besides, he said that he made the 4 GS finals this year, had two children, broke Sampras’ record, so he’s happy

Roger will play Davis Cup this week-end in Genoa against Italy for the play-offs.
